Interesting. Informative. Inspiring.
Fridays, 11 AM-1 PM
September thru June
Every Friday at 11:30 we welcome Guest Speakers who have expertise, passion and incredible knowledge about a multiplicity of themes from current affairs, to artists and authors, to TED Talk conversations, history, life experiences from around the world, to local events and services like our Vancouver Public Library, Health Services , Chair Yoga and so many more.
Our participant group is incredibly well informed, well read and always keen to learn, deliberate and discuss. Typically we are about a dozen in number, making conversation intimate and friendly. We encourage participants to bring a Bag Lunch and Peretz provides desserts, coffee and tea.
There is no charge for this Peretz Program. All are welcome!
As always on the first Friday of each month, we have the well-informed Ralph Levy with us to
ponder, learn and consider the endless world of current affairs, with his ever knowledgeable
gathering of facts, figures and focal points.
Gerona/ Girona: A Centre of Jewish Culture and Learning in Medieval Spain
The small, northern eastern Spanish city of Gerona (better known today as Girona) was a centre of Jewish culture and learning in medieval times, and especially known for its Cabalistic studies. Derek Carr will share pictures of the old city and introduce us to some of the most notable Jewish scholars, such as Rabbi Moses ben Nahman. We love all we learn from Derek and his expertise in Spanish history!
Join us for our monthly Potluck Dinner and Guest Speaker at 6:30 pm. SASS will not meet on this date.
Empowerment Series: Jewish Food
In partnership with the Jewish Seniors Alliance, we are delighted to host the first of four Empowerment sessions, co-sponsored this year with the Jewish Museum and Archives. With the theme of Jewish Food and its importance in our culture, we will enjoy readings from Shanie Levin and musical entertainment by Debby Fenson and Deborah Stern Silver.
As 2016 comes to a close, we will turn our attention to Ralph Levy and his world affairs session. Be it the USA election and aftermath, the Middle East or our own Canada, this session always offers us new, provocative and important information, followed by engaged conversation.
